77th STREET AREA BASIC CAR COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER
Message from the Area Commanding Officer
Community Members:
The month of September signifies the last holiday of summer and full speed ahead with our “Back to School” activities. 77th Street Area in partnership with “A Chance for Children” hosted a back to a school back pack giveaway at McKinley Avenue Elementary School. The children were treated with a pizza party, a back pack filled with new school clothes, shoes and a $75.00 gift card to Target. It was an incredible day spent with wonderful children, families and the dedicated staff of McKinley Avenue Elementary School. Please visit our FACEBOOK Page listed below to see our group picture.
The safety of our children is a priority for all of us. I ask that you please be very careful driving in our school safety zones and slow down for our children and parents before and after school.
I want you to know that we have made tremendous strides in improving the quality of life in our communities through sustainable community programs and crime reduction efforts. The summer was very busy; however we decreased crime compared to last year with your help and support! Thank you.
Special Announcement: We are actively recruiting new members for our Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB). If you are interested in making a difference in your community through community policing partnerships, please contact Police Service Representative Pam Brown, at (213) 485-4285. We need your voice and energy to work on strengthening our communities and building youth programs. This is an opportunity to show your support for community policing partnerships.

iWATCH See Something, Say Something!
WHAT is iWATCH?! - iWATCH, iREPORT, i KEEP US SAFE (iWATCH) is a community awareness program created to educate the public about behaviors and activities that may have a connection to terrorism.
This program is a community program to help your neighborhood stay safe from terrorist activities. It is a partnership between your community and the Los Angeles Police Department. We can and must work together to prevent terrorist attacks.
To learn about the iWATCH program and about the behaviors and activities that you should report, view the videos and review the list of examples. You can also read and download a brochure that explains the program.
Remember that the iWATCH program is about behaviors and activities, not individuals.
Here are examples of behaviors and activities to report:
• People drawing or measuring important buildings.
• Strangers asking questions about security or building security procedures.
• Briefcase, suitcase, backpack, or package left behind.
• Cars or trucks left in No Parking zones in front of important buildings.
• Intruders in secure areas where they are not supposed to be.
• Chemical smells or fumes that worry you.
• People asking questions about sensitive information such as building blueprints, security plans, or VIP travel schedules without a right or need to know.
• Purchasing supplies or equipment that can be used to make bombs or weapons or purchasing uniforms without having the proper credentials.
