77th STREET AREA BASIC CAR COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER

Message from the Area Commanding Officer

Community Members:
Thank you for your support and confidence.  The rippling effect of the Trayvon Martin verdict once again tested the readiness of the Los Angeles Police Department and more importantly community policing relationships.  I am very proud of the strength of our readiness and relationships.  The professionalism, poise and confidence exhibited are a reflection of the tireless efforts we have made together to put community service first!  Thank you for taking the time to send letters of praise and reassurance to our officers.

I am very proud to announce that 77th Street Area has selected two new Senior Lead Officers.  However, they are not new to 77th Street Area and bring a wealth of passion and commitment to our communities.  Please welcome:

12A69 – Senior Lead Officer Carlos Valdez
12A58 – Senior Lead Officer Augustin Lopez

Special Announcement:  National Night Out will be hosted by Jackie Tatum-Harvard Park on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, from 5pm to 8pm.  Please come and enjoy the games, entertainment and food.  We will have a strong police presence throughout the park.  This is an opportunity to show your support for community policing partnerships.

Please visit our website at LAPDONLINE.ORG (type in 77th Street Area) or FACEBOOK.com/LAPD77th

As always thank you for your support.  I am supported by a tremendous support group of staff and community volunteers committed to making a difference.  If you are available to volunteer your time or services as a 77th Street Area Citizen Ambassador, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Police Service Representative Pam Brown, at (213) 485-4285.

ROBERT N. ARCOS, Captain

Crime Tips

iWATCH See Something, Say Something!

WHAT is iWATCH?! -  iWATCH, iREPORT, i KEEP US SAFE (iWATCH) is a community awareness program created to educate the public about behaviors and activities that may have a connection to terrorism.

This program is a community program to help your neighborhood stay safe from terrorist activities. It is a partnership between your community and the Los Angeles Police Department.  We can and must work together to prevent terrorist attacks.

To learn about the iWATCH program and about the behaviors and activities that you should report, view the videos and review the list of examples.  You can also read and download a brochure that explains the program.

Remember that the iWATCH program is about behaviors and activities, not individuals.

Here are examples of behaviors and activities to report:

  • People drawing or measuring important buildings.

  • Strangers asking questions about security or building security procedures.

  • Briefcase, suitcase, backpack, or package left behind.

  • Cars or trucks left in No Parking zones in front of important buildings.

  • Intruders in secure areas where they are not supposed to be.

  • Chemical smells or fumes that worry you.

  • People asking questions about sensitive information such as building blueprints, security plans, or VIP travel schedules without a right or need to know.

  • Purchasing supplies or equipment that can be used to make bombs or weapons or purchasing uniforms without having the proper credentials.
