Detectives Want Public’s Help to Identify Robbery Suspect; Surveillance Footage Depicts Suspect NR12489rf

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify a robbery suspect caught on surveillance video robbing store employees at gun point at a neighborhood 7-Eleven store.

On Oct. 6, 2012, at 4:30 a.m., a suspect brandishing a handgun entered a 7-Eleven store in the 700 block of West Vernon Avenue and confronted the cashier, ordering him to open the cash registers and then lie face down on the ground.  The suspect then removed money from the  registers and left the location.

At 3:20 a.m. on Oct. 24, 2012, at 3:20 a.m., another robbery occurred at the same location.  This time, there were two cashiers.  The suspect’s mode of operation was exactly the same, except that when he left the store after the robbery, he was seen making his getaway on a mountain bike heading east on Vernon Avenue.  The only description of the bike was that it might have been red or orange.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous and is described as a 25- to 35-year-old Black male about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall.  He weighs 180 to 220 pounds and was wearing a black beanie, black gloves, black sweater, black pants and black shoes.  He was armed with a blue steel semiautomatic handgun.

Anyone with any information about the incident or suspect is asked to call LAPD 77th Division Robbery Detectives Gerry Chamberlain or Sean Horton at 213-473-4861 during normal business hours.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247).  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477). Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cellphone. All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.”  Tipsters may also go to www.LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
