Los Angeles – On Monday June 4, 2001, at approximately 11:00 P.M., 25 year-old David Matthews Jr., was seated in the driver’s seat of his car. Matthews was with a 20-year-old male, who was seated in the passenger seat of the car, which was parked in front of 617 W. 74th Street. The suspects drove by the victim and without warning fired numerous shots in the direction of Matthews’ car. Matthews sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso. The other male occupant was not injured during this shooting. The suspects were last seen driving away at a high rate of speed on 74th Street and Hoover Street. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported Matthews to a local hospital were he succumbed to his injuries.
The motive for this crime is unknown. The suspects and weapon(s) remain outstanding.
