"DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STABBING"

Los Angeles – On Sunday, April 1, 2001, at approximately 11:15 p.m., 77th Street Area patrol officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 900 block of West 53rd Street. Dionicio Ramos, a male Hispanic, 62 years old became involved in a verbal argument with his estranged wife, Obdulia Ramos, 36 years old. Dionicio armed himself with a kitchen knife and stabbed Obdulia in the chest. Their 17 year old son came to the aid of his mother and disarmed his father from the knife and stabbed him in the upper torso with it. Obdulia fled out the back door, while her son was restraining her husband. Dionicio escaped from the arms of his son and went to the kitchen to obtain another knife, and chased Obdulia down 53rd Street towards Vermont Avenue. The son followed behind and saw that his father had caught up with his mother and was attacking her with a knife. The son, armed with the original knife, stabbed his father in an effort to prevent his mother from being further injured by his father.
Dionicio Ramos was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Unit to USC/Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Obdulia Ramos was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in stable condition. The son was not injured.
The son was questioned and released, and no charges are pending at this time. The circumstances which led to the stabbing appears to be a domestic dispute. The knives were taken into custody.
77th Street Homicide Detectives Contreras, J. and McCormack, B. are handling this investigation and any one with further information may contact 213-485-1385.
