Detective Jimmy Render, South Traffic Division Detectives
Sergeant Jon Aufdemberg, Community Traffic Services Unit, South Traffic Division (Coordinator), and South Traffic Division, Traffic Enforcement Officers

Why:
South Traffic Division has experienced an influx of fatal collisions due to excessive speed and pedestrian related violations.  Subsequently, STD will be conducting a Speed/Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation and Press Conference to inform the public of safety issues relative to speed and pedestrian violations.

This operation will be conducted in an effort to promote speed laws and pedestrian safety.  The operation will entail plain-clothed officers posing as pedestrian that are lawfully in the crosswalk, with Motor officers in uniform strategically position to observe motorists failing to yield for pedestrians and violating speed laws.    The message is simple, yield the right away to pedestrians in crosswalks and to adhere to posted speed limits.
