Officer-Involved Shooting in 77th Division NR14391lp

Los Angeles:   On September 8, 2014, around 2:00 a.m., 77th Division officers responded to a radio call of “Domestic Violence” in the 1100 block of West 81st Place.  When the officers arrived at the location, they heard a loud dispute.  Officers then saw the suspect, later identified as Alphonse Perkins shooting into the location.  Perkins turned toward the officers, pointed a handgun in their direction, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the suspect dead at the scene.  

No officers were injured and a handgun was recovered at the scene of the shooting.  

Los Angeles Police Department Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives responded to the incident and are conducting a thorough investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
 
The investigation will ultimately be reviewed by the Chief of Police, Office of the Inspector General and The Board of Police Commissioners for compliance with the Department’s use-of-force policy which states that an officer’s use-of-force actions must be objectively reasonable.  Additionally, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division will conduct a comprehensive review of the facts of the officer-involved shooting.
