WHAT: A press conference detailing the reward offered for the arrest of the suspect(s) who killed Jose Andres Escobar.

WHO: Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson LAPD Captain Peter Whittingham, Criminal Gang Homicide Division LAPD Detective Christopher Barling, 77th Homicide Coordinator Family members of Victim Jose Andres Escobar

WHY: On January 10, 2015, around 7 a.m., Victim Jose Andres Escobar and a friend were in the area of Crenshaw Boulevard and 59th Street collecting aluminum cans. Escobar and his friend walked eastbound on 59th Street and were near the center median of Crenshaw Boulevard when an unknown male suspect confronted them and shouted “Where you from?” The suspect produced a handgun and fired multiple times. Escobar was stuck by the gunfire and collapsed mid-block. He was transported to a local hospital and died from his injuries.
