"Victim Shot in Front of Hotel"

Westlake- Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a male Hispanic between 25 and 30 years of age.

On April 7, 2000, at approximately 2:15 a.m., several gunshots were heard in the area of the 700 Block South Union Avenue. Immediately after, the victim was seen knocking on the locked front door of the "Casa Sonora" Hotel, located at 729 South Union Avenue. The victim was let into the lobby where he collapsed to the floor. Paramedics were summoned and transported the victim to Los Angeles County/ USC Medical Center.

The investigation revealed the shooting occurred directly in front of the "Casa Sonora."

The victim was struck multiple times in the torso. The victim succumbed to his wounds at the hospital. The weapon used is believed to be a small caliber handgun. A motive for this crime has not been established at this time.

A male Hispanic, NFD, was seen running from the scene southbound on Union Avenue immediately after the shooting.
