Suicide Investigation

 

Westlake - Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the drowning death of a 51-year-old female Caucasian.

On Monday April 16, 2001, at approximately 4:50 p.m., Rampart Area patrol officers, responded to a radio call, "Female jumped into McArthur Park Lake."

Upon arrival, officers were met by witnesses who observed a female, fully clothed, who had jumped into McArthur Park Lake. Witnesses indicated the female never surfaced. Rampart Area patrol officers and the Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel searched the lake with negative results. Members of the Los Angeles Police Department's Underwater Dive Unit responded to the location for search with negative results.

On Tuesday April 17, 2001, LAPD Underwater Dive Unit Members resumed their search and at approximately 11:15 a.m., recovered the body of a female Caucasian from the lake, matching the description of the missing female.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin.
