Homicide Investigations in Southwest Area

Los Angeles - On Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a male Black, 50 years of age, was standing on the sidewalk in the 3900 block of Coco Avenue. The suspects' vehicle drove up and stopped. One of the suspects exited and for no apparent reason began shooting at the victim. The victim sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Approximately five minutes later, the same suspects drove up to a male Black, 29 years of age, in the 3600 block of Chesapeake Avenue and shot him for no apparent reason. The victim was pronounced dead at the location.

It appears that the suspects are local gang members, although the victims have no ties to any gangs. The suspects' vehicle was described as a late model Ford Aerostar Minivan, light blue with dark blue stripes on the sides, chrome rims and tinted windows.

Anyone with information regarding this crime, please contact Southwest Homicide Detectives Gordan and Razanskas at 213-485-2417.

This press release was prepared by Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section , 213-485-3586.
