Car Theft Suspect Killed; Owner Booked For Murder

Los Angeles: On Monday, April 5, 2004, at about 4:15 a.m., Hollywood Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of shots fired in the 5000 block of Maplewood Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a 25 year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The initial investigation disclosed that 26 year-old Yoon Ho Song heard someone breaking into his car, which was parked in his driveway. Song armed himself with a handgun and saw two men pushing his car out onto the street. When Song ordered the suspects to stop, one suspect ran away. Song then fired at the other suspect, killing him.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld until his family can be notified.

A follow up investigation by the detectives revealed that the deceased was unarmed at the time of shooting. Song was arrested and booked for Murder and is being held on a $1,000,000 bail. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday, April 7, 2004.
