Force Multiplier announced by Mayor James K. Hahn

Los Angeles Mayor James K. Hahn; Police Commissioner David Cunningham, III; Los Angeles Chief of Police William J. Bratton; Deputy Chief Gary Brennan, Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa; Councilman Dennis Zine, and; Councilman Tom LaBonge

Los Angeles: Mayor Hahn will announce that more Los Angeles Police Department Officers will be returning to the field as part of his budget roll-out. Officers currently assigned to the LAPD Backgrounds Unit and the DARE Program will be available to work in the field in one of the eighteen geographic Areas. Officers and Detectives from these units will be utilized for higher priority crime fighting functions within the Department.

Chief William J. Bratton has already deployed all full duty sworn personnel in administrative positions to support uniform field operations one day per deployment period. The first phase of this program began on March 25, 2004. More officers and detectives assigned to non-field duties are anticipated to participate in this program in the upcoming months.
