Korean Store Owner Killed

"Korean Store Owner Killed - Revised"

Los Angeles: On Sunday afternoon a Korean store owner was shot and killed while working at his store in the 1100 block of East Vernon Avenue.

Officers discovered the victim on April 24, 2005, at 1:30 PM., after answering a radio call. The victim was identified as Sang Yum Kim, the 58-year-old owner of the Kimbo liquor store.

The motive for the crime appeared to be robbery. The number of suspects was not known, nor was any description immediately available. The victim's gray Dodge van was taken from the scene by one or more of the suspects, but found by police the next day, April 25, 2005, at 4:15 PM, in South Los Angeles.

The victim was found inside the store and appeared to have been working alone. No customers were present at the time of the robbery. Detectives are still trying to determine what property, if any, was taken from the victim or the store.

Anyone with information is urged to call Newton Homicide Detectives Dennis Fanning or Tommy Thompson at 323-846-6556. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
