Korean Man Murders Family Members, Commits Suicide

Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating a murder/suicide that occurred Sunday morning in the Westlake area of Los Angeles. A father shot and killed his wife and son, attempted to kill his daughter, then took his own life.

On April 9, 2006, at about 9:50 a.m., concerned friends went to the family’s apartment in the 100 block of North Hoover Street, after the family failed to arrive at church. Upon entering the residence, the bodies of a 55-year-old Korean male, a 50-year-old Korean female, and an 8-year-old Korean boy were found. A female Korean, 16 years of age, was still alive, suffering from a gunshot wound to her head.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the surviving victim to a local hospital where she listed in stable condition.

The investigation revealed that the father shot his wife, son and daughter as they lay in their beds. The suspect then turned the gun on himself. The weapon used was recovered at scene.

The motive for the shooting is unknown. The victims’ names are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

Anyone with information is asked to call Rampart Homicide Detectives at 213-207-2064. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (529-3855).
