Man Stabbed to Death in Winnetka

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police detectives are investigating the stabbing murder of a 21-year-old man who died Tuesday afternoon.

On April 25, 2006, around 5:10 p.m., Jose Cervantes was walking on Winnetka in the 20000 block of Sherman Way. He was part of a four- to six-man Hispanic tagging crew, ages 14 to 21 years. A car of gang members drove up to the group, yelled out a gang slogan, and attacked them with a knife and brass knuckles. Cervantes was stabbed twice in the chest before collapsing on the lawn of a nearby apartment complex. A passing motorist called 911.

Police and Los Angeles City Fire paramedics responded. Cervantes died at the scene from his injuries.

The suspects are described only as four to six male Hispanic gang members. They left the location in an gray unknown type four-door sedan.
