Speeding Driver Dies after Severe Collisions Detectives Still Looking for Answers about What Happened NR13114rf

April 2, 2013

Los Angeles: LAPD Valley Traffic Division detectives are still trying to piece together elements of a traffic incident in which a speeding driver was killed after causing a couple of serious collisions.

Yesterday about 10:40 a.m., a car believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed going south in the 8800 block of San Fernando Road collided with the rear-end of a scrap metal collection truck in the center median.  After the impact, the driver immediately continued heading south.  But before long, his older-model Oldsmobile hit another large vehicle attempting to enter traffic from a place of business along the west side of San Fernando Road.

At that point, the car came to a stop.  The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Sun Valley resident Joel Joseph Solis, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Valley Traffic Division detectives continue to investigate what happened and encourage anyone who may have witnessed or has information about the incident to contact Detective Chris Laurino during business hours at 818-644-8115.   On weekends or during non-business hours, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD247 (877-527-3247).  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to www.LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
