Fatal Traffic Collision

Monday, August 23, 1999
On August 20, 1999, at approximately11:55 pm, an unidentified female was driving a 1992 white Ford Fiesta southbound in the #2 lane of Vermont Avenue approaching Oakwood Avenue. The driver attempted to pass another vehicle on the right at which time her vehicle continued in a westerly direction into the #3 lane and collided with a power pole south of the intersection.
The driver and her 27 year old passenger Omar Flores of Los Angeles, were both transported to County USC Medical Center where they each underwent emergency surgery for internal injuries sustained during the collision. Mr. Flores succumbed to his injuries and died a short time later while at the hospital. The unidentified driver is still hospitalized. It is unknown at this time if criminal charges will be sought against the driver. This investigation is on going.
