Husband Kills Wife and Relative During a Domestic Dispute

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, August 30, 1999

On Friday, August 27, 1999, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Wilshire Area Patrol Officers responded to a "shots fired" call at the 960 block S. Harvard Boulevard. Upon arrival officers heard a single gunshot emanate from Apartment #3 and then silence. The officers forced entry into the apartment where they found three male and two female Asians who had died from gunshot wounds.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Moo Bon Paik, 58 years old, lived at the location and that his estranged wife had gone to the location with her relatives to speak to him. An argument ensued and the domestic incident turned violent. Paik shot his wife and her relatives and moments later shot himself. Two handguns were recovered at the scene of the crime. Positive identifications had not yet been made at the time of this press release on each of the victims.

Robbery Homicide Division is handling the investigation.
