Shooting Results in Victims Demise Outside Home

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Saturday, August 12, 2000

"Shooting Results in Victim's Demise Outside Home"

North Hills - On Friday, August 11, 2000, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a small group of people were gathered in front of a residence located in the 9500 block of Orion Avenue. A male Hispanic suspect in a newer model light colored sport utility vehicle drove up and stopped in the roadway adjacent to the group. The suspect exited his vehicle, produced a handgun, and fired several rounds at the group striking Gerardo Reyes, 29 years old in the upper body. The suspect then entered his vehicle and fled the location.

Devonshire Area officers and LAFD personnel responded to the scene. The victim was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in extremely critical condition. The victim failed to respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries at 11:55 p.m. The motive for the shooting is unknown and it is uncertain whether the victim was the intended target.

Anyone with information should contact Devonshire Detectives Robert Bogison or Bradford Cochran at 818-756-8291.

Prepared by Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section 213-485-3586.
