"Pickup Collides With Asphalt Truck"

Wilmington - On Monday, August 21, 2000, at approximately 5:30 a.m., a two vehicle traffic collision occurred on Alameda Street approximately one-half mile north of Pacific Coast Highway. A 1996 black Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by a 26 year old single male driver heading southbound on Alameda Street collided with the left side of a commercial "big rig" hauling almost 25 tons of hot asphalt.

The driver of the pickup sustained critical injuries in the accident and was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted for surgery. The "big rig" driver was not injured. There were no hazardous material spills resulting from the accident.
