"Driver Hits Parked Vehicle Killing the Occupant"

Los Angeles - On August 24, 2000 at approximately 12:30 a.m., a traffic collision occurred on North Crescent Heights Boulevard, south of Oakwood Avenue. A 1998 Ford Explorer, driven by Ronald Kelly Jr., a 29 year-old resident of Westchester, was southbound on Crescent Heights Boulevard. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle. Kelly's vehicle collided with the rear of a vehicle parked at the west curb. The parked vehicle contained two occupants who were transported to an area hospital where one of them was pronounced dead. The other occupant sustained minor injuries. Their names are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Kelly's vehicle overturned and came to rest in the middle of the roadway. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel removed him from the driver seat. Kelly displayed the objective symptoms of driving under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested and booked for Felony Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated. His bail has been set at $100,000.00.
