"Homicide Investigation in Newton Area"

Los Angeles - On Tuesday, August 29, 2000 at 11:14 p.m., officers responded to a "Shots Fired" radio call at 46th Street and Wall Street. Upon arrival they discovered an unconscious, male between the age of 25 to 30 years old, lying on the sidewalk in the 200 block of E. 46th Street with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and head area. Evidence at the scene indicated that the victim was shot in the area of Wall Street and 45th Street and was chased southbound to 46th Street then east on 46th for approximately one-half block where he collapsed. The victim was transported to USCMC where he was pronounced dead at 2:00 a.m. on August 30, 2000.

Residents in the vicinity reported hearing numerous gunshots and described the suspects only as two male/Blacks, 20 to 25-years-old, both armed and was last seen running eastbound on 46th Street. No vehicles were seen or heard. Investigation at the scene indicated that in excess of 20 shots were fired, possibly from two separate handguns.

The victim's identity has not been established and the motive of the shooting has not been determined. At this time there are no suspects in custody.
