Los Angeles: On August 6, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department in partnership with the Vons/Safeway Corporation will conduct a press conference to kick off the joint effort of the Stop the Violence Prevention Campaign.
Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard C. Parks, Vons/Safeway representatives, El Sereno Middle School students, who developed a Stop the Violence Program at their school, and Ms. Linda Lockwood, a community member who developed the idea of a crime prevention message on Vons grocery bags, will be present during the kick off press conference.
The family of Elizabeth Thomas will also be present to receive groceries provided by the Vons/Safeway Corporation. Elizabeth was the innocent victim of a gang-related shooting which occurred on July 7, 2001 in the 1900 Block of Pennsylvania Avenue.
