Husband Kills Estranged Wife And Then Shoots Himself

"Husband Kills Estranged Wife And Then Shoots Himself"

Los Angeles: On Saturday afternoon, August 18, 2001, at approximately 12:10 P.M., Edis Mabel Gonzalez, 42 years of age, was approached and confronted by her estranged husband, Francisco Javier Gonzalez, 45 years of age. This occurred on the front porch at the 5800 block of South Wilton Place. After an exchange of words, Francisco armed himself with a handgun and shot Edis one time in the head and then shot himself in the head. They both died at the scene.

The motive for the shooting appears to have been related to a domestic dispute.

The investigation is being conducted by 77th Street Homicide Detectives Michelle Esquivel-Solis and Richard Jackson. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the detectives at 213-485-1385 or after hours, 213-485-2504.

This press release was prepared by Officer Don Cox, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
