Robbery Victim Shot in Front of Market

Los Angeles: On Thursday, August 23, 2001, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Northeast Area Community Police Station Police Officers responded to an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon--Shots Fired" call on the 3900 block of N. Figueroa Street. Upon arrival, the officers located Albert Robles, a 27 year-old male Hispanic sitting in his car in front of the "Tony's Market." Robles had been shot several times in the upper torso with an unknown caliber handgun.

Responding paramedics pronounced Robles dead at the scene of the shooting. Further police investigation led Northeast Homicide Detectives to believe that the motive for the shooting was robbery and does not appear to be gang-related.

There was no further information regarding a possible suspect at the time this press release was written.

Homicide Detectives from Northeast Operations Support Division are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact Detective J. Carrillo at 213-847-4261.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Guillermo Campos, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
