Newton Detectives Investigate Homicide

 

Newton Area: On Saturday, August 25, 2001, at 2:55 A.M., Amos McKinley Polk Jr., age 21, was walking westbound in the 900 block of E. Martin Luther King Blvd. with a friend. A vehicle with two male occupants passed them travelling east. The vehicle made a U-turn, stopped, and the passenger suspect fired approximately four rounds from an unknown caliber handgun at Mr. Polk. Mr. Polk sustained one gunshot wound to the head. The Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The motive appears to be gang related.

The suspects were described as two male Blacks driving a burgundy colored Ford. They were last seen south on Wadsworth.
