Officer Involved Shooting Occurred With Armed Gang Member

"Officer Involved Shooting Occurred With Armed Gang Member"

Los Angeles: On Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at approximately 1:55 p.m., Hollenbeck Area officers responded to a radio call of a domestic dispute at 3410 Estrada Street.

Upon arrival, the officers observed a male Hispanic suspect walking eastbound on Estrada Street, who was later identified as Dominic Gonzalez, 19 years of age of Los Angeles. Gonzalez observed the officers and ran eastbound on Estrada Street when he drew a pistol from his front waistband and pointed it at the officers. Police Officer Rudy Chavez, 30 years of age, seven years with the Department, in fear for his and his partner’s life, fired two rounds from his service pistol at Gonzalez. Gonzalez sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm and was taken into custody. Gonzalez’ loaded semiautomatic pistol was recovered at scene.

Gonzalez was transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center where he was treated and subsequently booked for Assault with Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer.

The officers were not injured during the incident.

This press release was prepared by Sergeant John Pasquariello, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
