Los Angeles: As America’s focus on national security issues heighten with the approaching one year anniversary of 9/11, the Los Angeles Police Department will showcase it’s newest high-tech emergency response equipment.

Members of the media can get hands on experience with the Department’s latest high tech vehicles and equipment including new SWAT non-lethal tools to apprehend suspects. The media will also have the rare opportunity to handle less than lethal weapons at the firing range. The Hazardous Material Team will be recognized for receiving the "Robert P. Turkington Award - Innovation and Technology" for developing the Rapid Threat Analysis Kit (RTAK). RTAK is designed to help Technical Responders quickly assess the nature of suspicious, unknown powder threats as either harmless or as a potential threat by using simple analytical instruments and chemical indicators while out in the field.

Some of the new equipment that will be on display and may be demonstrated includes:

  • SWAT Van
  • SWAT Armored Rescue Vehicle
  • SWAT Suburban
  • SWAT Pinning Hole
  • SWAT Webshot Net Launcher
  • Mobile Command Post (Mobile 6)
  • STANS (Sanitary Toilet and Necessities Station) Trailer
  • Mobile Canteen
  • Underwater Dive Unit Truck and Equipment
  • "Hot Dog" K-9 Temperature System
  • HAZMAT Latest Technology

Due to limited amount of parking for live shot opportunity, media is requested to RSVP to reserve parking space with Public Relations Specialist, Pedro M. Muñiz, 213-485-3281.
