Keeping Kids Safe… Annual LAPD/LAUSD Safe Return to School Press Conference

"Keeping Kids Safe… Annual LAPD/LAUSD Safe Return to School Press Conference"

What:
Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Unified School District conduct the Annual Safe Return To School Press Conference.

When:
Thursday, August 29, 2002, at 10:30 a.m.

Where:
The Los Angeles Police Academy Lounge, 1880 North Academy Drive

Los Angeles: As children of all ages return to school, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District once again collaborate on a School Safety Plan. As always, our priority is "Keeping Kids Safe," including the importance of ensuring the safety of children as they attend schools throughout the Los Angels Unified School District.

Also of great concern is the prevention of "Child Abductions," and ensuring children know what to do if confronted by a stranger. Officer Jackie Landister will be on hand to conduct a series of skits on the actions that children may take to prevent being abducted by strangers. Additional featured topics will include the C.A.R.E. Alert, A.M.B.E.R. Alert, Safe House Program, Walking to School and Traffic Safety, and Bullying Awareness.

Officials attending the press conference will include:

  • Los Angeles City Councilmember Dennis Zine

  • Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo

  • Los Angeles Police Commissioner David S. Cunningham

  • Los Angeles Police Chief Martin H. Pomeroy

  • Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Roy Romer

  • Los Angeles Unified School District Police Department Chief Alan Kerstein.

For more information contact Captain Sharyn Buck, Commanding Officer, Juvenile Division, at 213-485-2801.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Eduardo Funes, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
