25 Year-Old Killed in Gang Related Shooting

Los Angeles: Hollenbeck Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the gang related shooting death of 25 year-old Arturo Casas, a Los Angeles resident.
On Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at about 12:35 p.m., the victim was employed by HomeBoy Industries and was responding to a graffiti removal call. The victim was driving his company truck eastbound on 1st Street at Cummings Street and stopped for the red light. Unknown suspects pulled up next to the victim’s truck in an unknown type black Honda. A passenger suspect exited the vehicle and walked up to the passenger side of the victim’s truck. The suspect fired several rounds with an unknown type handgun into the cab of the victim’s truck, striking him several times. The suspect then re-entered the Honda and drove off southbound on Cummings Street. The victim lost control of his truck and collided with the south curb of 1st Street east of Cummings Street.
Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
