"Multiple Shots Fired at Group of Acquaintances,
One is Struck and Killed"

Los Angeles: On August 15, 2004, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Rampart Area Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon shots fired radio call, at 1006 North Mariposa Avenue.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a drive-by shooting occurred in front of 1018 North Mariposa Avenue and Adrian Hernandez Lopez, a 20 year-old Hispanic male had been shot. The victim was transported by his acquaintances to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital where he died a half of an hour later.

Further investigation revealed the victim was standing in the driveway at 1018 North Mariposa Avenue, with a small group of acquaintances when a white 4-door vehicle occupied by two male Hispanics drove by. The male in the front passenger seat fired a handgun multiple times at the group and struck Hernandez in the upper torso. The vehicle drove away northbound on Mariposa Avenue.

The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking assistance from the community, asking witnesses to contact Rampart Homicide Detectives J. Motto or J. Pere at 213-485-2060 during daytime hours or the toll free 24-hour number at the Detective Information desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
