When:Saturday, August 6th7:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Where:6700 Block of LankershimNorth Hollywood
Who:Officers from the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division
Why:Officers will operate the checkpoint in an effort to raise public awareness and remove dangerous intoxicated drivers from city streets.  In recent months, over 3,000 drunk drivers have been arrested in the San Fernando Valley.  The hazards created by drivers impaired with alcohol cause injury and death.
Additional:
Motorists approaching the checkpoint will see information signs advising them of a sobriety checkpoint ahead.  Once diverted to a specific lane, motorists will be detained for a few moments while an officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint.  Based on traffic volume, all vehicles will be checked.  If traffic becomes congested, motorists will be selected by a preset standard (e.g., every 3rd or 5th vehicle) to assure neutrality.
