Why:
On Saturday, August 27, 2005, the Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Baseball Team will host the 5th Annual LAPD-Celebrity Baseball Swing-A-Thon. This one of a kind baseball festival and fundraiser is open to the public and will bring together police officers, elected officials, celebrities, children and families to promote positive life choices, good health and physical fitness through America’s favorite past time, baseball.

The Swing-A-Thon will feature a charity baseball game and home run derby between LAPD Officers and celebrities; public safety officers with their tactical equipment and emergency response vehicles; free digital fingerprinting, health care screening, interactive games, community booths, music, giveaways and more.  Baseball legend Manny Mota and a host of Dodger players will teach a baseball clinic and former football greats Rod Martin and Charles White will give pointers on the game of football.

In addition, the money raised during this event will provide hundreds of underprivileged children and their families Thanksgiving dinner, toys and gifts for the upcoming holidays season.
