School Murder Solved
Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department solved the Venice High School shooting murder that occurred on June 5, 2006, where 17 year old Agustin Contreras was killed.
With the assistance from the public and eyewitnesses to the crime, detectives have identified the suspect who is responsible for the Contreras shooting as 21-year-old Cymone Donyeal Turner, a resident of Venice.
On June 5, 2006, at around 3:00 p.m., Contreras was attending school when his two brothers became involved in a fight with at least five Black men who attempted to take a neck chain from one of them. Contreras went to the aid of his brothers when one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and fatally shot him in the chest.
Turner has been in custody since June 9, on an unrelated crime. On August 10, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed one count of murder, one count of attempt of robbery, and one count of unlawful possession of firearm.
Turner remains in custody. This investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
