LAPD Conducts Sobriety Checkpoint

What:
LAPD Conducts Sobriety Checkpoint

When:
Saturday, August 26, 2006
7:00 PM to 1:30 AM

Where:
Reseda Boulevard between Roscoe Boulevard and the Ventura Freeway

Who:
Valley Traffic Division Officers

Why:
From January 1, 2006, through July 15, 2006, residents in the San Fernando Valley have endured over 500 traffic collisions involving intoxicated drivers. In addition, there have been eight deaths, and twenty-five serious injuries. Valley Traffic Division officers have arrested 1,474 DUI drivers this year. An average of six each day.

Sobriety & drivers license checkpoints will be continuously scheduled to educate and enhance public awareness on the dangers of driving while intoxicated. The checkpoint will be funded by a grant received by the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Motorists approaching the checkpoint will see information advising them that a sobriety checkpoint is ahead. Once diverted into a lane, a motorist will be detained only a few minutes while an uniformed officer explains the purpose of the checkpoint. The sobriety checkpoint will be operated in accordance with guidelines mandated in the Supreme Court decision, Ingersol vs. Palmer. All motorists will be stopped.

Any questions or concerns should be directed to Sergeant Robert Kirk, Valley Traffic Division, at 818-756-8381.
