Juveniles Arrested for Burglarizing City Facility NR11578rf

December 15, 2011

Los Angeles: LAPD Hollenbeck Area burglary detectives have arrested three juveniles in connection with a burglary of a facility operated by the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks.

On Dec. 10, 2011, a burglary occurred at the Hazard Armory in the 1300 block of San Pablo Street in Los Angeles.  The facility serves as a local maintenance headquarters for the Department of Recreation and Parks and houses LEGACY LA, a nonprofit organization for at-risk youths in connection with the mayor’s Gang Reduction and Youth Development program.

After meeting with the executive director of LEGACY LA, detectives inspected the vandalized areas of the facility and received a tip from the director as to a possible suspect involved in the burglary.  After further investigation, detectives determined the suspect lived nearby and were also able to identify two additional suspects.

On Dec. 13, detectives paid a visit to the local residence of the initial juvenile suspect, spoke with the suspect’s parents and conducted a search during which they recovered evidence and all of the stolen property that was positively identified as belonging to the LEGACY LA organization.

A short time later, all three juvenile suspects were in custody and freely admitted their involvement in the burglary.  Consequently, they were booked for burglary and have been assigned a date to appear in juvenile court.
