Celebrities Team-Up with LAPD to fight juvenile delinquency Charity Campaign Kickoff NR12496rh

November 1, 2012

Los Angeles:  The Hollenbeck Police Activities League (PAL) is kicking off its 2012-2013 “1-CUP” campaign to raise funds to provide Hollenbeck Area youths and their parents with resources, services and the support needed to help raise healthy and successful children.  The campaign hopes to raise $250,000 to serve 1,000 underprivileged children.

In addition to raising funds, the campaign’s goal is to raise awareness of the problems associated with delinquency and underachieving, and to shed light on how easily people of every age and socioeconomic background can be part of a solution that positively impacts the community.  Juvenile delinquency costs our state tens of millions of dollars each year. This can be prevented and it starts with “just one cup!”

The campaign features descriptive videos featuring a variety of celebrities including Edward James Olmos, Ed Begley, Jr., Ken Baker (E! News), Luc Robitaille (LA Kings GM), Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray), Bryan Clay (Gold Medalist), Esai Morales, and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck.  Chief Beck said, “By donating just the cost of a cup of your favorite premium coffee each week, $5 per week or $20 per month, you can sponsor a child and provide him or her with the valuable support and services that empower youths and help them succeed at achieving their goals.”

The three-month campaign which includes a series of PSA in local networks including CBS, ABC, PBS, and LA City Channel 35, hopes to raise 1,000 cups (each cup represents a person committing to the $240 annual donation).   The group is also accepting one-time donations in any amount and the donation process is easy.  Donations can be made by visiting www.1-cup.org  and clicking on the “donate” button.

Corporate leaders are encouraged to get involved in the campaign’s Corporate Challenge.  It’s easy too.  Designate a team leader and recruit friends and colleagues to help raise funds.  Recruit other corporations and make it a challenge.  If you would like to create a personal team, you can do that as well. Anyone can create a team, and by visiting www.1-cup.org, you can see which celebrities are signing up to create teams.
