A Fatal Union Pacific Railroad Collision Leaves One Man Dead NR14002rh

Los Angeles: A fatal Union Pacific Railroad collision occurred near the intersection of 48th Place and Long Beach Avenue, when an unidentified man laid down across the eastside tracks directly in the path of an oncoming freight train causing his own death.

On January 3, 2014, around 3:05 p.m., a male white, about 50-years-old walked towards the railroad tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad and laid down across the track directly in the path of a northbound freight train.

The train conductor immediately sounded his horn and applied his brakes, but was unable to stop in time and collided with the man causing his immediate death.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and the man was pronounced dead at scene.

The identity of the man has not been identified.
