WHY:
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) founded in 1913, is one of the nation’s premier human relations and civil rights organizations, fighting anti-Semitism and bigotry of all kinds.  The Sherwood Prize recognizes law enforcement officials that go above and beyond their job descriptions in combating extremism, bigotry, and hatred.

During the ceremony, members of the LAPD’s Counter Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau’s (CTSOB) Liaison Unit will be honored for their effort to educate the public that hate crimes can be prevented when the community and the police department together participate in transparent, honest and meaningful discussions about different cultures and how each one makes up the fabric of diversity within the City of Los Angeles.  The CTSOB Liaison Unit utilizes innovative techniques through community-oriented policing, social media and art exhibits to educate the community about hate and terrorism, ultimately trying to stop bigotry before it starts.
