Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver involved in a hit and run that fatally struck a male. On June 24, 2017, around 10:30 p.m., officers received a radio call of a traffic collision on Vernon Avenue and Ascot Avenue. The traffic investigation revealed that a light color sedan was travelling eastbound on Vernon Avenue and failed to stop for a red light at Ascot Avenue, colliding with a male pedestrian who was crossing southbound on Vernon Avenue within a marked crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid to the pedestrian and was last seen southbound on Compton Avenue.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim is unknown.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
