A Domestic Violence Fatal Felony Hit and Run Traffic Collision NR18218ne

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information regarding the events that led up to a domestic violence hit and run collision that resulted in the death of a 24- year-old female.

On August 11, 2018, around 8:55 p.m., a female passenger in a pick-up truck for an unknown reason exited the vehicle while still in motion in the area of Mckinley Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard. The female was struck by the rear tires of the pick-up truck.

Los Angeles Fire Paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the pick-up truck failed to stop, identify himself/herself or render aid to the victim as required by law. Subsequent follow up investigation resulted in the arrest of the victim’s boyfriend Rudy Zacarias, a 25-year resident of Los Angeles. Zacarias was arrested and booked for 20001 Vehicle Code Section, Felony Hit and Run.

Detectives are trying to determine if the female was intentionally pushed out of the vehicle or if she exited on her own. Detectives are asking for any witnesses to any events leading up to this incident to come forward. The manner and cause of death is unknown at this time, and is pending the final coroner’s autopsy report.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
