"A Dispute Escalates to Murder"

Los Angeles - On October 7, 2000, at approximately 10:55 am, the Los Angeles Police Department emergency line received a phone call reporting the victim of cutting who was down on the sidewalk in front of 107 East 6th Street. Central Area officers responded to the location ,and found a man on the ground bleeding, from a wound to the upper chest. Witnesses to the incident directed officers to the area of 6th Street and Wall Street ,where they located a male with a bloody mouth ,and severe bruising around his face.

The victim, whose identity has not been established, was transported to a local hospital for treatment but failed to respond and died at 11:49 am.

The preliminary investigation shows that the victim and the suspect became involved in a dispute, which ultimately escalated. During the escalation, the suspect armed himself with a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest.

The suspect has been identified as Bernard Mitchell, a 58 year old resident of Los Angeles. He was booked at Parker Center Jail for Murder, with no bail.
