Man Stabbed in Downtown Skidrow Area NR11579rh

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Department Central Division Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of a suspect (s) who killed a 53-year-old black man in the Skidrow area.

On December 14, 2011, at 6:30 p.m., Central Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of a stabbing victim in the 1100 block of E. 7th Street.  The officers learned that a man staggered into the nearby market and told the clerk to call 9-1-1 then collapsed on the floor.  The victim was stabbed once in the upper torso.

“Witnesses told detectives that about five black men attacked the victim on the sidewalk near 7th Street and Ceres Street,” said Lt. Jim Gavin, who is the detective watch commander for the Central Detective Division.  “We’d like anyone with any information to call us.”

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he died a short time later from his injuries.

The suspects are described as five male blacks.

The motive for the attack is unknown and the suspects are still outstanding.

The victim’s name will be withheld until his next of kin has been notified.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact Central Homicide Detective Lake at 213-972-1254.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
