Captain Ronald E. Marbrey was born on April 17, 1958, in Twenty-Nine Palms, California. Two months later the Marbrey family moved to San Diego, California where Ronald lived until age 23. During his experience in San Diego, Ronald graduated from Claremont High School in 1976 with a High School Diploma. While at Claremont High, Marbrey participated in the school’s Varsity Baseball Program and periodically provided "play-by-play" commentary during the varsity basketball season.
After leaving Claremont High, he attended Mesa Junior College and Mira Costa Junior College where he continued his athletic and academic pursuits. His focus and dedication resulted in scholarship offers, along with requests for attendance to colleges for both his academic and athletic accomplishments. Eventually, Marbrey attended the University of La Verne where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration. In addition, he participated in the school’s Varsity Baseball Program. At season’s end, he and his teammates were in first place and Marbrey was voted to both the leagues All-Conference and All-District Baseball All Star Teams. Subsequently, Marbrey was drafted during the 1982 January Professional Baseball Draft by the New York Yankee Baseball Organization. He participated in the Yankee Baseball Program for one year prior to joining the Los Angeles Police Department in May of 1983.
After graduating from the Los Angeles Police Academy in November of 1983, Marbrey was assigned to Devonshire Patrol Division where he completed his probationary officer training period. Marbrey worked hard at learning the fundamentals of police work, and after successfully completing the Probationary Program in November of 1984, he was "wheeled" to Newton Area Patrol Division. While at Newton Area, Marbrey worked a variety of assignments that included patrol, a housing projects footbeat, a Special Problems Unit assignment, and a loan to Burglary-Auto-Theft Division.
In October 1986, Marbrey successfully competed for a highly sought after pay-grade advancement position in the Southwest Area Vice Unit. After completing a quality tour in the vice unit, Marbrey accepted a loan to Personnel Division where he was assigned to complete background investigations on potential police candidates. During his loan to Personnel Division, Marbrey fortuitously contended for a Detective Trainee position within Southwest Area Detectives. In October of 1988, Marbrey was promoted to the rank of Detective and transferred to Southeast Area where he conducted a variety of adult and juvenile related investigations.
Approximately one year later Marbrey promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was transferred to Van Nuys Area Patrol Division. Marbrey completed his probationary period and was wheeled to 77th Area Patrol Division. Marbrey skillfully applied his leadership ability, and after approximately six months returned to Van Nuys Area and assumed a vice supervisory position.
Marbrey provided leadership to the night watch vice section during the first three months of his tour. Subsequently, due to a serious injury incurred by the Officer-in Charge of the unit, Marbrey provided leadership to both the day and night watch units. However, Marbrey’s partner was unable to recover from his impairments. Therefore, based upon his fellow Sergeant’s injuries, his partner subsequently retired from the job. Meanwhile, Marbrey lead the entire unit by himself for the remaining 11 months of his tour. In addition, Marbrey was in the middle of his graduate studies at the University of Southern California (USC). Although his life was extremely active, Marbrey persevered and completed a successful vice tour. He also achieved a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration from USC in 1993.
In August of 1992, Marbrey transferred to Training Division where he completed staff work for the In-Service Training Section. After approximately a year, Marbrey accepted a loan to Internal Affairs Division where he investigated complaints made against police officers. Based upon his quality performance, Marbrey was offered a position within Internal Affairs Division, which he readily accepted.
In May 1993, while at Internal Affairs Division, Marbrey promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. He was transferred to Harbor Area where he performed the duties of Watch Commander for approximately one year. Thereafter, he transferred to Newton Area for a brief period before settling in at Central Traffic Division. Throughout his endeavors as a Watch Commander, Marbrey provided leadership and direction to subordinate personnel. His emphasis on training, preventive discipline, and quality customer service, established him as a quality supervisor within the Department.
After 19 months with Central Traffic Division, Marbrey transferred to Hollywood Detective Division. He was assigned as the General Investigative Section supervisor. Marbrey again placed a substantial emphasis on leadership, and continued to incorporate quality work and service in all his endeavors. His efforts were fruitful in that Hollywood Area solved a number of high profile cases that were acknowledged on the major news networks. In many instances Marbrey played a major leadership role.
In May 1998, Marbrey accepted the position of Commanding Officer at Commission Investigation Division. Marbrey was in charge of six sections within Commission Investigation Division. The Division was involved in several major projects that focused on customer service and quality improvement.
On December 31, 2000, Lieutenant Marbrey was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned to North Hollywood Area as the Operations Support Division Commanding Officer. When the Department reorganized on July 28, 2002, Marbrey became the North Hollywood Patrol Division Commanding Officer.
On March 7, 2004, Captain Marbrey accepted the position as the Foothill Patrol Division Commanding Officer. He is specifically responsible for Patrol Operations within the command and he assists the Area Commanding Officer with the overall command.
He is currently the Commanding Officer of Central Traffic Division. Captain Ronald E. Marbrey is supported by his wife, and their daughter and son. The Marbrey family resides in the Diamond Bar area, where they are actively involved in a variety of community and school activities. |
