CRIME INFORMATION
The victim is a gold refining business located in the Los Angeles Jewelry Mart. The suspect obtained a valid seller/business permit and opened an account with the victim. For a month, business was conducted with no discrepancies. The suspect began to bring worthless scrap metal to the victim with supporting documentation in the form of Assay Reports to show that the scrap had monetary value when in fact it had little to no gold content. When the victim discovered that the metal was worthless, they discovered the suspect's business address was a front and the suspect had disconnected his telephone. It was determined that the Assay Reports that were used as the supporting documents as to the validity of the metal’s worth were all altered. Over a three-month period the loss totaled $888,000.
