South Bureau Homicide Requests Information on Double Homicide Case

On Wednesday, December 16, 1998, at approximately 9:50 a.m., a shooting occurred in the 6000 Block of 10th Avenue. Victim # 1, Benson Gregory Harris, a male Black, 42 years old and Victim #2, Derrick Laron Bowie, a male Black, 33 years old were standing outside when an unknown male Black suspect approached the victims on foot. The suspect produced a handgun and shot both victims multiple times. The suspect fled the scene on foot, running in a northbound direction. Victim Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. Victim Bowie was transported to a local hospital where surgery was performed. He succumbed to injuries and death was pronounced at 1:15 p.m.

The suspect is described as a male Black, 5’8"-6’0" tall, 18-25 years old.

The motive is unknown and the suspect is outstanding.
