Los Angeles Department of Transportation DASH Bus Involved in Fatal

On Tuesday, December 14, 1999, at approximately 2:30 PM, a Los Angeles Department of Transportation DASH bus carrying approximately 9 passengers southbound Vermont Avenue from Sunset Boulevard collided with another vehicle and parked vehicles at the west curb of Vermont Avenue. The driver of the bus, Lilia Bran of Walnut, 40 years old, claimed brake failure, causing her to lose control of the bus resulting in the collision. Salvador Pena Rivera and his 12-year-old son, Abraham, were seated in one of the parked vehicles at the curb. Rivera and his son were killed as a result of the collision. Several passengers on the bus claimed various injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation. One pedestrian was also seriously injured and transported to Los Angeles County Hospital. That person has not yet been identified.
