Victim Collides With Vehicle After Being Shot

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT

Tuesday, December 28, 1999

On Sunday, December 26, 1999, at approximately 12:50 AM, Northeast Area Uniformed Patrol Officers responded to a radio call, "Shots Fired, heard only in the area, 3300 block of Division Street. Upon the officer's arrival, they discovered the victim laying inside of his vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The Los Angeles Fire Department was summoned to the scene. Upon their arrival, they provided emergency medical treatment to the victim and subsequently transported him to USC Medical Center.

Officer's investigation revealed that the victim had stopped his vehicle at the Boulevard stop sign located at Avenue 33 and Division Street, when he was approached by an unknown-armed suspect(s). The armed suspect(s) fired several rounds at the victim, causing the victim to lose control of his vehicle, which struck the curb several times and then struck a parked vehicle. The victim's vehicle came to rest against the parked car, where officers discovered the victim's vehicle still running and in gear.

The victim, a male Hispanic, (identity pending notification of next of kin) approximately 20 to 30 years of age, is currently listed in extremely critical condition.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. It is unknown if this incident is street gang related.

Northeast Area Homicide Detectives are conducting the investigation.
