Southeast Community Police Station Distributes Christmas Baskets to Needy

December 27, 1999

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, December 27, 1999
On December 20, 1999, Southeast Community Police Station will once again be distributing Christmas baskets of food and toys to needy families in the area.

Each basket will contain a turkey and/or canned ham and all of the staples necessary for a delicious and nutritious Christmas dinner. Along with the baskets, we will also be presenting a toy for each child in the recipient households.

This year the program has very special meaning. The cast and crew members of the hit television shows "NYPD Blue" and "City of Angeles" will be providing toys for the children and all of the contents for the baskets. This extremely kind and generous offer was made when a crew member from NYPD Blue contacted Sergeant Ted Maillet and asked "how can we help." Sergeant Maillet paid a visit to the set and the rest is history.

The baskets will be put together on Monday, December 20th in the recreation hall of the Hoover Community Church at 10611 South Hoover Street. The Southeast volunteers, along with cast and crew members of NYPD Blue and City of Angeles will be on hand at 6 a.m. that morning to begin the big job of putting the baskets together. Afterward, they will be distributed throughout the community by the Southeast Senior Lead Officers.

For additional information, contact Sergeant Ted Maillet, Officer-in-Charge, Southeast Community Relations Office at 213-485-9909.
