Officer Involved Shooting

Wednesday, December 29, 1999

On Tuesday, December 28 1999, at approximately 8:10 P.M., Southwest Area uniformed Gang Suppression Officers Timothy Pearce, Serial No. 32796, 32 years old, 4 years with the Department, and Kristina Ripatti, Serial No. 32800, 27 years old, 4 years with the Department, were in the area of the 1200 block of West 39th Place looking for a known gang member who was wanted for a parole violation and for assault with a deadly weapon.

The officers drove by the location where they had observed the suspect on prior occasions and noticed several known gang members standing in the area. The officers parked their vehicle a short distance away and returned to the location on foot. As they were approaching the location, suspect Termane Bailey, 23 years old, pointed a shotgun at Officer Pearce and fired one round. Officer Pearce returned fire, striking the suspect in the leg. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted, and upon his recovery, he will be booked for attempt murder on a police officer.

The suspect's weapon, a pistol grip shotgun was recovered at the scene.

Robbery Homicide Division is conducting the investigation.
